The Mestinje Anticline

The Mestinje Anticline is located at a road junction where routes to Podčetrtek, Rogaška Slatina, Lemberg, and Celje meet. According to expert studies, it is the only known anticline of this age in Slovenia, making it a rare and valuable geological natural monument.
The Mestinje Anticline displays the folding of the Earth that occurred about 15 million years ago during the Miocene (Tertiary) period. It features a 15-meter-long and 10-meter-high profile of arched folded layers of calcareous sandstones and marls, offering visitors a unique insight into the geological history of the area.
