Wine Tasting at the Šmarje Wine Cellar
At the Šmarje Wine Cellar, you can enjoy a tasting of premium wines crafted by local winemakers. You’ll have the opportunity to sample three selected wines produced by members of the Trta Winegrowers and Winemakers Association. The tasting is complemented by snacks prepared by the Ajda Association, including traditional local specialties such as jerpica and zavihječa. The Trta Association, established in 1994, brings together as many as 196 local winemakers.
The Šmarje Wine Cellar is situated in the renovated Skaza House, where the restored vaulted cellar features wooden display cabinets made from old wine barrels and other traditional wine vessels. These cabinets showcase a variety of wines from Šmarje’s winemakers.
As part of Skaza House, you can also visit the Tourist Information Center with the Skaza Local Exhibition, which guides visitors through the history and development of modern-day Šmarje. The exhibition is dedicated to Franc Skaza—a patriot, benefactor, and national awakener—who once lived in this very house.
